Info:

The Rolex UFO is a Rolex one-of-a-kind. Rolex broke the mould for the UFO, which is really unusual because as a rule of thumb Rolex followed the Porsche school of business thought “if the design's right – don't, mess with it!” The UFO nickname ‘Flying Saucer” comes from its unique side-on outline, it has no comparison within the Rolex oeuvre, or for that matter with any other watch manufacturer. The case design meant that the bracelet was made integral and on this particular example the bracelet is stamped for the third quarter of 1955, which conveniently dates this piece. No other Rolex watch can be accurately dated this way! The Honeycomb dial is unusual but not unheard of for this model. The trellis, or honeycomb dial is perhaps more sought-after by collectors because of its rarity and intriguing design. Arguably the slender design of the UFO means it could be termed a dress watch. However Rolex specifically brought out the Cellini model to fill the ‘dress watch' gap in their range, so technically the UFO is ‘merely' a very thin Rolex. The condition of this watch is absolutely superb, the dial is as perfect as it can get, the case is unpolished and the bracelet is guaranteed original – the whole ensemble is extremely ‘tactile' and it is an absolute joy to wear.
